The Instructional Systems Designer
manages the scope of the development of online projects,
serving as the coordinator for successful completion
through coordination of, and adherence to the project's
scope, plan, and deployment. This role supports the
customer in identifying and creating the
necessary content for successful skill acquisition by
the audience. The following are samples of tasks and activities
available from the Instructional Systems Designer:
Interviews key individuals for
input into the project or learning objectives
Organizes course content and
manages content contributors, identifying gaps and
assigning tasks
Assigns tasks to Visual
Information Specialists, Technical Writers and Graphic
Artists in
creating and modifying content in alignment with
scope
Participate in special
projects, needs analysis, work group facilitation,
and other related initiatives relative to content
development
Ensures development follows
internal guidelines for Change Management protocol
identifying process needs for compliance
Determines priorities for
specific courses relative to time and
resources available, projected schedules
and relationship to the objectives of the training
program.
Utilizes new and developing,
nontraditional distance learning
methodologies/technologies, including but not
limited to, web-based, internet, video-conferencing,
CD/DVD, and blended learning training and
development options.
Evaluates existing course
content and previous student learning experiences to
recommend enhancements or solutions to problems
Participates in establishing
policy, procedures, and guidelines for delivery of
training/development programs
Identifies inconsistencies in
course development and presentations
Provides guidance to management
on educational theories, practices, and
technological advances
Provides guidance to management
in various technical requirements (software and
hardware)
Confers with curriculum
designers, course writers, instructors and
subject-matter experts to coordinate the successful production of
computer-based/Web-based training
